Remember Matt Major from his appearance on theTapout reality show on Versus?

“Superfly” has been busy since his appearance with the Tapout crew training for his next fight on August 23rd against Shonie Carter and planning his future as a contender at 185.

PRO MMA caught up with Matt this weekend to see what he was up to, when we could see him fight again, and how that George Foreman grill is doing:

PRO MMA:What’s up Matt, great to talk to you. Where have you been since the show, and when will we be able to see you again?

Matt: I’ve been with AKA for the past couple of weeks, and I’m getting ready for my next fight.

Joe Lauzon Calls Tapout TV Show Garbage

by:  Jack Bratcher

As most MMA fans know, the leading MMA clothing line and UFC sponsor, Tapout, has a television show that airs on Versus.  On the show, the Tapout crew made up of Mask, Skyscrape, and Punkass, travel around the country in their pimped out RV scouting out fighters to sponsor and  helping their fighters in various ways.  They are currently airing the second season and the show that Joe Lauzon is referring to is the second episode of this season which featured his brother, Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon.

The Tapout crew arrives at Dan’s gym to watch him train and get a feel for how he looks in the cage.  Dan had an upcoming fight just a few days away, so apparently Dan was finished with the hardcore portion of his training regimen and was now at the stage where he was cutting the final few pounds of weight by staying active.

Dana White’s Final UFC 87 Video Blog

Dana White took us on an unprecedented journey with him starting at the beginning of last week all the way through UFC 87 and beyond.  He did a video blog each day highlighting his activities leading up to UFC 87.  This is the final blog of the series and it was filmed the day of the fights in Minneapolis and takes us along as Dana gets ready in his hotel room to go to the fights, then to the fights, the press conference afterward and then finally back to Dana’s hotel room as the day’s festivities come to a close.

It’s a very personal look into the life of the promoter and reminds me of the stories I’ve heard of what the original concept for “The Ultimate Fighter” had been.  White promises that his video blogs will continue for each UFC hereafter so until next time, here’s the man himself, Mr. White:

Gokhan Saki – K-1 Cinderella Man

by:  Cory Brady

K-1 put on another highly entertaining show Saturday night with the USA Grand Prix from Honolulu, Hawaii. For those unfamiliar with the K-1 GP elimination format it is set up as follows. Eight fighters fight in quarterfinal bouts, the four winners of those matches advance to a pair of semifinals where the winners of those bouts clash at the end of the night in the final.

In the first GP bout of the night, 6’1″ slugger Mighty Mo took on 6’9″ behemoth Justice Smith. This bout was a somewhat sloppy affair that saw Mighty Mo receiving flagrant knees to the groin and headbutts from an extremely akward Justice Smith. Mo seemed frustrated with Smith’s antics and was able to mount enough offense in the form of wild power punches to win a majority decision.

The Arena VII – Aug 9th, 2008 Wise, VA

by:  Jack Bratcher

The UFC wasn’t the only MMA event happening on August 9th.  The ARENA VII was held this past Saturday night in Wise, Virgina.  One match in particular on that card featured Josh Stepp (who is Greg Maynard’s wrestling coach) from West Virginia faced Andre Boyd from Kingston, Tennessee.  While Dustin Hamm vs. Elmo Jones got Fight of the Night honors, Josh Stepp vs. Andre Boyd came a close second.  Josh got the victory over Boyd and this video will show you what we’re dealing with here.  Clearly, with guys like Maynard winning the Heavyweight Title last week and his good friend and wrestling coach, Josh Stepp putting on performances like this, West Virginia has some great MMA talent on the rise.
