MMA fighter Bobby Lashley who also wrestles for the IMPACT! promotion speared American Top Team owner Dan Lambert violently through a table at a recent taping. The angle between the two was a basic one revolving around them having a falling out. It culminated on January 25th with the brutal move and Bobby’s arms being raised in celebration. On Sun., Aug. 23, 2009, Ryo Chonan made his homecoming to the Japanese DEEP organization by taking on Jutaro Nakao in the main event at “DEEP – 43 Impact” at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. In the first round, Chonan picked Nakao apart with powerful leg kicks. In rounds two and three, Chonan took Nakao to the canvas and used ground and pound attacks to grind out a unanimous decision. It was a sweet victory for Chonan who was released by the UFC following a loss to T.J. Grant back in April.
There were two titles on the line at “DEEP – 43 Impact.” Takafumi Otsuka upset the champ Dokonjonosuke Mishima by unanimous decision to take home the featherweight title, and in his first bantamweight title defense Masakau Imanari defeated Tomohiko Hori also by unanimous decision.
“DEEP – 43 Impact” takes place Sun., Aug. 23 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. In addition to two title fights on the card, Ryo Chonan (15-10) will have a Japan homecoming as he gets back to action in his first bout since being released from the UFC earlier this year.
Chonan went 1-3 in the UFC after arriving in 2007. All his bouts within the UFC went to decision, with losses to Karo Parisyan, Brad Blackburn, and most recently to T.J. Grant at UFC 97. He did defeat Roan Carneiro at UFC 88 via split decision.
Chonan will be taking on the very tough Jutaro Nakao (22-14-4) in the main event. Nakao is a 13-year veteran who defeated Tony DeSouza at UFC 33 via second round knockout. He then went the distance with Sean Sherk at UFC 36, losing a unanimous decision.
DEEP 38 took place on October 23 in Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan.
