ESPN’s MMA Instagram account shared something we have been following closely. A potentially explosive bout between former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier and former title challenger Al Iaquinta.
Iaquinta went the distance with current lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov whereas Poirier got tapped in the 3rd round by the Russian. You have to imagine that if there is a bout between the two that will be used by Al repeatedly. “I did well against him and you tapped” or something like that thrown repeatedly in his face.
Iaquinta officially called ‘Diamond’ out recently and he got a response from him on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show. It was swift and brutal as Poirier pointed out incorrectly that Al had only won two fights in five years. He has won 4 of 7 and is on a two fight skid, but something tells me that Dustin already knew that. Insulting someone with incorrect data gets double the reaction. Anger at the slight and a burning desire to correct the insulter.
