melvin_guillardUFC lightweight Melvin Guillard is currently facing a series of charges in the state of New Mexico that could see the 29-year-old knockout artist behind bars for up to eighteen months if found guilty.

According to MMAJunkie.com, Guillard has five outstanding assault and battery charges stemming from separate incidents in the Albuquerque area.

Guillard, who is best known in the cage for his devil-may-care style of stand up fighting, recently made waves in the MMA community when he publicly announced via Twitter that he would be leaving Blackzillians to reunite with his old camp at Team Jackson-Winkeljohn– a claim which was later refuted by a source within the camp who said flatly, “he’s not allowed back here”, citing a meeting which took place among Jackson-Winkeljohn leadership in which a vote was held to bar Guillard from returning to the gym.

Guillard is set to go on trial for his assault charges on April 10th. Stay close to ProMMANow.com as we follow this, and all, UFC news both in and outside of the Octagon.
