Bellator MMA was set to kick off their ninth season with a respectable card. However, medical issues have forced Joe Riggs and Joe Warren off the card, so a lot of the shine has dissipated. However, there is still a middleweight title fight and the first round of another Bellator tournament. The card takes place tomorrow night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card will air live on Spike.
After a strong debut, the ratings dipped a little bit last week. However, there is no time to regroup, since Bellator’s eighth season continues Thursday night at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant, Mich. As always, the main card will air live on Spike TV, while the undercard can be seen on Spike.com. Bellator 87 features the first round of the season-eighth lightweight tournament.
The weigh-ins for Bellator 87 are in the books with all Season 8 lightweight tournament quarterfinalists making weight without issue.
Original headliner and tournament participant Patricky “Pitbull” Freire has suffered a last minute knee injury and has been replaced by Saad Awad, who will take on “Pitbull’s” original opponent, Guillaum DeLorenzi. Lloyd Woodard vs. David Rickels is now expected to take the main event spot.
