Headliners Michael Chandler and David Rickels both made weight for their Lightweight Title bout with Chandler coming in at 154. 4 pounds and Rickels weighing in at 154.6 pounds.
Bellator Fighting Championships’ Summer Series returns with Bellator MMA 97 on Wednesday, July 31, at the Santa Ana Star Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The event is headlined with two title fights as lightweight champ Michael Chandler takes on David Rickels, and welterweight champ Ben Askren takes on Andrey Koreshkov live on Spike TV.

In the main event Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal silenced the critics with a devastating first round starching of “Kimbo Killa” Seth Petruzelli, who had been taunting and mocking King Mo in the weeks leading up to their light heavyweight tournament semifinal bout.
MMA veteran Renato “Babalu” Sobral officially retired from the sport of of MMA after a third round TKO loss against Jacob Noe at the Bellator 96 event that took place Wednesday night. Sobral retired right in the middle of the cage in a move that no one knew about until he started the process. Bellator 90 headliners Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev both weighed in at 145.9 pounds for their Featherweight Tournament Championship bout.
Bellator MMA returns this Thursday night on Spike TV. On the main card, the Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev face off for the season-seven featherweight tournament crown. The season-eight light heavyweight and welterweight tournaments continue as well.
Bellator Fighting Championships returns for the eighth season. This season marks the promotion’s return to Thursday nights and their debut on Spike TV. The highly anticipated move to the former home of the UFC is expected to propel the promotion forward. Bellator 85 features a pair of title fights and the first three bouts for the light heavyweight tournament. Lightweight champion Michael Chandler will defend his title against Rick Hawn. Tournament winner Patricio “Pitbull” Freire will attempt to displace featherweight champion Pat Curran.
