It is without question that Kayla Harrison is one of the best female grapplers on the planet. The question is, “Is Kayla Harrison The Best Female Grappler On The Planet?”
There are many who will make the argument that, as a 2-Time Olympic Gold Medalist, she most certainly is. There are many grappling sports that fit under the grappling umbrella. There are the sports of kurash, judo, jiujitsu, sambo, greco roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, folkstyle wrestling, san shou, chidaoba, senegalese wrestling, and a few others.
The reason to make mention of all of those arts is so that people are aware that there are MANY grappling disciplines and the ability to enter into each competition is different. Meaning, you cannot walk up to the Olympics and “sign up” and compete. And in each division there is ONLY one representative from each QUALIFIED country. This alone makes the level of athlete at the Olympic level very different from other competitions.
In this author’s opini0n, Kayla Harrison’s Competition Record speaks for itself.
In my opinion, she MOST certainly is.
If you’re wondering if Kayla has plans to make the transition to MMA like fellow judo Olympian Ronda Rousey, for now at least, the answer is no.
