The following quotes are from tonight’s UFC 163 POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV for UFC 163: ALDO VS. KOREAN ZOMBIE. The show was hosted by Jon Anik, with UFC middleweight Michael Bisping and heavyweight Daniel Cormieroffering analysis. Ariel Helwani conducted interviews on-site.
UFC 163 POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV Analyst Daniel Cormier on Jose Aldo vs. Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie): “The Korean Zombie did a great job in the fight. He wasn’t outclassed. But we saw a patient champion. He had a wrestling strategy. In the third round Zombie was picking it up. Then Zombie knocks his shoulder out of place and that was it. Jose wasn’t going to lose. Zombie fought a good fight. I thought we saw some maturity from Aldo in his fourth title defense.”
UFC 163 POSTFIGHT SHOW ON FUEL TV Analyst Michael Bisping on Aldo vs. The Korean Zombie: “Aldo won the fight, and he was winning the fight the whole time. I don’t think this was Aldo’s best performance, but he won. I think he was pacing himself a little more tonight.”
Cormier on what The Korean Zombie could have done differently: “He was fighting with patience and we needed to see him throw caution to the win. When he started to do it, he had some success.”
Cormier on who Aldo should fight next: “Cub Swanson has been on a sick roll right now. I want to see him fight Aldo next. Cub is very confident right now, but Aldo won’t lose.”
Aldo on if he felt good about the ending of the fight: “I told his coaches I was sorry it ended that way. He was getting better in the fight and it wasn’t the best way to finish, but I won the fight.”
Aldo on if he was getting tired in the fight: “I knew I was winning the first three rounds. I slowed down so I wouldn’t expose myself. I hold the belt right now, and people always think that I get tired, but my cardio is great.”
Aldo on who he’ll fight next and if he’d move up to the 155 pound division: “I don’t know. That’s up to Joe Silva, but I would move up to 155.”
Cormier on Lyoto Machida vs. Phil Davis: “It’s about leaving a lasting impression at the end of the round and Davis did that with takedowns at the end of the first and second rounds. I thought the second round was more definitive. Phil did a great job staying patient. He went in there and tried to make Machida lead. He stayed on the outside and went kick for kick with him. He implemented his game plan. You can’t chase Machida, he’s too gifted. You have to stand back and let him bring the fight to you.”
Bisping on why Davis beat Machida: “Lyoto didn’t do enough in this fight. He was hanging around and letting Davis do his work. Davis impressed me with his striking. Machida wasn’t overly active. Maybe he needs to change his style. I didn’t see the killer instinct. He needs to be more aggressive. He’s too reserved and too hesitant.”
Davis on if he thought he did enough to win over Machida: “I think I definitely did enough. I trust the judges when I win and I trust them when I lose. It was a close fight.”
Davis on if he believes he’s now the number-one contender: “That’s not for me to decide. Lyoto Machida was on top for a while. With a win over him, I don’t know where I’m at now. But yes, I want to fight for the title.”
Davis on if he’d fight his training partner Alexander Gustafsson if he beats Jon Jones: “Yes. We discussed this. We have the attitude that iron sharpens iron. I helped him with his wrestling and he’s helped me with my overall game.”
Bisping on Cezar Ferreira vs. Thiago Santos: “Ferreira looked ripped to death and like a mutant. I think Ferreira is a very good prospect in the middleweight division and is going to go places. He looks like a Vitor Belfort protégé, but fortunately, he doesn’t have the same haircut as Belfort.”
Cormier on Jon Jones’ comments about Cormier getting a shot to fight him: “When I hear his quote, it’s like a 16-year old girl. Jon Jones, grow up bud, we’re going to fight regardless of how you feel. And when we do and I’m cutting the line and you might as well pull the guard because I’m taking you down.”
