Bellator veteran and women’s MMA strawweight standout “Little” Patricia Vidonic (8-5) got back in the win column this past weekend with a first round armbar submission victory over Jessica Doerner (3-2) at “Golden Cage MMA: Magic City Mayhem 2” in Minot, N.D.
Vidonic got the offer to fight Doerner exactly seven days before fight night after her original opponent pulled out and the promotion was having trouble finding a replacement. It was a risky move. The fight was at 125 pounds. Doerner has a substantial boxing background and had finished all three of her pro MMA victories in the first round. Not to mention, the fight was in Doerner’s hometown.
But Vidonic, who stays in the gym year-round, took the fight and it paid off. After losing a highly controversial split decision to then No. 1 ranked Jessica Aguilar at Bellator 94 in March, the 33-year-old Billings, Mont. mother took it out of the judges’ hands in this one.
Patricia Vidonic is the author of the long-running and popular “The Vidonic Chronicles” blog on ProMMAnow.com which details the life and training of a professional women’s mixed martial arts fighter and mother.
