UFC on Fuel TV 4 definitely gave viewers an action packed evening of fights, and it seems we have a new number one middleweight contender after Chris Weidman‘s strong performance against Mark Munoz in San Jose last night.

Four fighters walked home with bonus money; Joey Beltran and James Te Huna earned “Fight of the Night”, Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres got the “Submission of the Night”, and Chris Weidman landed “Knockout of the Night”. Each one of the fighters took home $40,000 in bonus money for their achievements.

The bout between Joey Beltran and James Te Huna undoubtedly deserved “Fight of the Night”. Both men went toe-to-toe for most of the fight with James scoring the occasional takedown. Beltran showed great heart after absorbing a barrage of strikes during the last moments of the first round, then during the final two rounds of the fight both men engaged in an exciting exchange of punches. In the end, Beltran just wasn’t able to score as many significant strikes and takedowns as Te Huna resulting in a unanimous decision victory for the New Zealand native.

Former TUF contestant Alex Caceres walked away with “Submission of the Night” after scoring a second round triangle choke submission over Damacio Page. This bantamweight fight was part of the night’s preliminary card.

Chris Weidman took on Mark Munoz in the night’s headline fight; this gave everyone a chance to see how much of a well rounded fighter Weidman really is. The 28-year-old controlled Munoz in the first round with his wrestling and jiu-jitsu, then in the second round Mark went for an overhand right and got caught with a stiff elbow. That strike ultimately ended the fight as Munoz fell to the canvas with Weidman following up with unanswered punches to put him away.
