[ads1]Strikeforce and Invicta FC veteran Amanda Nunes will make her UFC debut on Aug. 3 when she takes on fellow women’s MMA bantamweight Sheila Gaff at UFC 163 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Nunes, a 25-year-old Brazilian, has been fighting professionally since 2008 and has amassed knockout wins over such names as Vanessa Porto (15-6), Ediane Gomes (10-2) and Julia Budd (5-2).
Nunes fought twice under the Invicta FC banner, winning a technical submission (Rear-Naked Choke) over Raquel Pa’aluhi (2-4) last July, and most recently, dropping a unanimous decision to Sarah D’Alelio (7-3) in January.
Twenty-three-year-old Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff (10-5-1) made her Octagon debut against Olympic wrestling phenom Sara McMann (7-0) at UFC 159 in April. Despite Gaff’s well-rounded skills, McMann did what she does best and used her wrestling to get the fight to the ground where she controlled position and pounded out a first round TKO win over the German.
Gaff is a veteran of the U.K.’s Cage Warriors promotion where she scored notable wins over Aisling Daly (13-5) and Jennifer Maia (7-2), both by first round knockout. Prior to making her UFC debut Gaff had scored three straight first round knockout victories.
ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) reported earlier this evening that BJJ world champion Robert Drysdale will also be making his Octagon debut at UFC 163 against Ednaldo Oliveira.
UFC 163’s main event features a featherweight title bout between reigning champion Jose Aldo and challenger Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, who has moved down from lightweight for an instant shot at Aldo’s belt.
As it currently stands, the UFC 163 fight card being held on Aug. 3 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, includes:
