Josh Haynes defeats Sean Salmon at A Night of Combat II

UFC veterans Josh Haynes and Sean Salmon met tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas at “A Night of Combat II”.

Salmon was a late replacement for Steve Byrnes. This was one of the most anticipated fights on the card due to the style match-ups and it turned out to be a great showing by both fighters.

Haynes showed marked improvement since his TUF days and his time with Xtreme Couture is clearly paying off.  Salmon showed great heart and displayed some of the top-level wrestling he is known for.

You will be able to watch this fight and the entire Night of Combat card Saturday Oct.18 on HDNet. Until then here are the night’s results and how the action went down:

Sean Salmon never backs down: PRO MMA exclusive interview

By Denny “The Mad One” Hodge

Sean Salmon has a problem. He can’t say no. He has taken fights on a month’s notice, and even said yes to fights that were only a week away. He has tried to say no, but cannot. If the call comes and someone wants to fight him, or if he learns that there is an event and someone doesn’t have an opponent, he steps up and into the ring for another battle. He’s in that position again tonight as he faces TUF alumnus Josh Haynes in the A Night of Combat II event. Sean has re-focused his career and has won his last 4 of 5 by TKO, and is looking to make some serious noise at 185. PRO MMA spent some time talking with Sean to get his thoughts on fighting on short notice, how he rebounded after the Rashad fight, and facing Josh Haynes tonight.

PRO MMA: Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk with us Sean. How does your training change in the weeks leading up to a fight?
SEAN: I used to go light in the week leading up to the fight, but now I go hard right up to about 3 days before the fight. I do take precautions to not get cut or injured, or to have any accidents in the 2-3 weeks before the fight.

Rick "The Jet" Roufus

Superfights MMA and KC Concepts has officially announced the addition of Rick “The Jet” Roufus to “A Night of Combat II.” Roufus, a kick-boxing legend and former K-1 champion recently transitioned into MMA and is ready to make his mark in the sport. Roufus will face UFC Veteran Hector “Sick Dog” Ramirez in the main event at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, October 11, 2008.

Skip Kelp of Superfights MMA had this to say, “We are excited to have Rick Roufus in our main event. Rick’s a phenomenal fighter, he holds titles in both kick-boxing and boxing, has added ground skills to his arsenal and is ready to take it to the cage.”

The main bout between Roufus (4-3-0) and Ramirez (7-3-1) is well matched.  Ramirez last competed for Hardcore Championship Fighting in March, defeating Toronto’s own Rob McDonald by unanimous decision in Gatineau, QC. Roufus, also coming off of a victory, defeated Ryan “The Hunter” Lopez of The Ultimate Fighter 8 by TKO in round 2 at a recent C3 Fight event in Concho, OK.
