Dustin Poirier finishes Diego Brandao in first round striking battle

It was a back and forth encounter for Dustin Poirier and Diego Brandao to kick off the main card of UFC 168. Brandao looked to have the advantage early landing some kicks. Brandao actually landed a shot as Poirier fell and was in a down position. Brandao was able to get Poirier down but Dustin escaped to get to his feet.

Junior Assuncao to meet Daniel Swain in XFC 27 main event live on AXS TV

The contracts are signed and the Featherweight Main Event is set for XFC 27 in Muskegon, MI Live on AXS TV Friday Dec. 13th. Former XFC Lightweight World Champion Junior Assuncao (14-5) returns to the cage ready to face off against newly signed 22 year old Daniel Swain (10-2). 2009 could really be considered the year of the featherweights. The WEC really put the weight division on the map, and both major Japanese promotions, Sengoku and Dream, held featherweight tournaments.

It is only fitting that the Fighter of 2009 be someone who is now considered the king of that very weight class. In case you slept through the whole year, that king is Jose Aldo.

Aldo started his WEC career in 2008. He scored two impressive victories over Jonathan Brookins and former Shooto world champion Alexandre Franca Nogueira. In 2009, he went 4-0 and capped off the year by dominating the seemingly unbeatable Mike Thomas Brown and winning the WEC crown in the process.
