It was a back and forth encounter for Dustin Poirier and Diego Brandao to kick off the main card of UFC 168. Brandao looked to have the advantage early landing some kicks. Brandao actually landed a shot as Poirier fell and was in a down position. Brandao was able to get Poirier down but Dustin escaped to get to his feet.
With a minute to go in the round, Poirier got Brandao against the cage and peppered him with shots to the body and head. He landed a take down of his own . He got top position and started pounding away. With only seconds to go, the referee stepped in and waved the fight to a close with Poirier getting the TKO victory.
The win makes it three out of four for Poirier. This win comes after Poirier says he didn’t cut any corners and was training when he didn’t want to. It was an obvious dig at Brandao who came in overweight for the fight.
