It looks like it was a rough night for some of the fighters in Muskegon, Michigan. All fighters took to the scales ahead of tomorrow night’s XFC 27 event and it appears weight was an issue. Several fighters came in off the mark by several pounds. Sources close to the situation said the positioning of the scale played a part as well as some of Michigan’s rules as to weight allowance. We learned that as long as you are within 5 pounds of your opponent’s weight the fight will still be approved.

December 13, 2013 will mark the traveling promotions first trip to the Northern U.S., when XFC 27: Frozen Fury invades Muskegon, Michigan. “XFC 24: Collision Course” takes place this evening at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. In the main event Scott “Hotsauce” Holtzman faces John Mahlow for the XFC lightweight title. Mahlow was the XFC’s very first 155 pound champion several years ago and hopes to reclaim his former glory this evening, but standing in his way is Knoxville, Tennessee’s Holtzman who remains undefeated in his pro MMA career and is 4-0 in the XFC cage.
The main event of XFC 24 was set to pit fast rising lightweight Scott Holtzman (4-0) against the champion Nick Newell (9-0). Newell made his way through the ranks after the XFC signed him following their open fighter tryouts. Holtzman won his way into the promotion as an amateur and has since finished three of his four opponents to capture the number one contender spot for Newell’s belt. We learned today that Newell has refused to sign a contract to fight Holtzman.
