The event featured EliteXC veteran John Reedy who pulled off a first round submission victory.

You have to hand it to War Gods for having one of the most creative names in the business.

Brian Cobb defeated Marcus Levesser via Submission(RNC) in Rd. 2
Dusty Arden defeated Joey Armstrong via Unanimous Decision

CSAC Executive Officer Resigns

It has been reported that Armando Garcia has resigned as the California State Athletic Commission’s Executive Officer.

The agenda for the next CSAC meeting shows the resignation to be the fifth order of business.

Garcia, a former Florida boxing referee, served as the Executive Officer for over three years, beating out 75 other candidates for the position back in 2005.

Jim Rome talks WEC 36: Faber vs. Brown

ESPN’s Jim Rome talked about the WEC 36: Faber vs. Brown fight Thursday on his sports talk show, Jim Rome is Burning.

Jim Rome is as legitimate as it gets when it comes to mainstream sports coverage. He has a loyal following of dedicated listeners that take their sports very serious.

Drysdale ready to turn pro

Although BJJ phenom Robert Drysdale has had only one amateur MMA fight, apparently he’s ready to give it a go in the professional ranks.

The Fight Zone, Inc. sent out a press release today announcing that Robert Drysdale will be turning professional within MMA.

His announcement to turn pro is not surprising.  What’s even more surprising to some is he even bothered having an amateur MMA bout at all.

War Gods: Do or Die in Fresno on Nov. 8 (with live online stream)

War Gods:  Do or Die will take place on Saturday November 8, 2008 in Fresno, CA at Selland Arena.  There will be a special guest appearance by Roger Huerta.

Great news for MMA hardcores:  A FREE live web stream of War Gods: Do or Die will be available on Sherdog.com as they broadcast live from ringside.

The event will kick off at 6:30 Pacific, and will feature WEC veteran Poppies Martinez and EliteXC vet John Reedy.

Online streams are a great way for these regional shows to gain exposure and gives a chance for these lesser known fighters to get their name out there.  This rising trend in free online streams of MMA events is beneficial for everyone and hopefully the trend will increase even more.

The Ultimate Fighter 8 – Episode 8 Re-Cap

We are starting to get down to business now with the numbers being narrowed down, and the semi’s starting to shape up.  This episode is supposed to showcase a lightweight that is being compared to GSP.  It looks like we may be in for a treat with some good action in the LW match up tonight.

After the quick re-cap from the LHW match up last week, we shift to the house for team Nogueira enjoying Tom Lawlor’s fruit tray…again.  It seems they do this almost every day to Tom, and he is not exactly happy about it.

Olympic wrestler Ben Askren to make MMA debut

Add Ben Askren as the next Olympian to make the move to mixed martial arts.  Now training with American Top Team, he is expected to make his official debut in early 2009.

The University of Missouri alumnus was a four-time All-American and two-time NCAA wrestling champion, ending his collegiate career with 87 straight wins and back-to-back undefeated seasons.

During his time at Missouri, Askren began taking jiu-jitsu and considered competing in MMA however, after winning his division at the U.S. Olympic Trials he found himself in the Beijing Olympics where he advanced to the quarterfinals.

Elite Combat League: Brawl for a Cause results

Elite Combat League held their “Brawl for a Cause” at the Spirit Bank Event Center in Bixby, Oklahoma on November 1, 2008. Our good friend and PRO MMA sponsored fighter, Billy “24/7” MacDonald made his pro debut and here’s what he had to say about his fight and the event:
