He fought his brother at MFC 29 in April, now heavy-handed UFC vet Terry Martin is taking on what Maximum Fighting Championship is calling their “hottest prospect”, Dhiego “Maluco” Lima.
The two will square off in a catchweight bout as part of the “MFC 31: Rundown” HDNet televised main card on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Since turning pro in 2010, the undefeated Lima (6-0) has torn through six straight opponents, finishing each one; four by submission, two by knockout.
Lima’s most recent victim was veteran Jamie “The Ghost” Toney (14-7). It took Lima just 2:47 into the first round to lay “The Ghost” out, making it his third straight win under the MFC banner.
Lima commented on the upcoming bout with Martin:
“I’m going to knock out Terry Martin and I’m going to do it faster than my brother did.”
That is a tall order, as Dhiego’s brother, Douglas Lima, knocked Martin out just 1:14 into the first round at MFC 29 back in April.
Since being released from the UFC in 2008 Martin (21-9) has gone 5-5. Prior to the loss at MFC 29, Martin had won three straight, scoring decision victories over Ted Worthington (31-32) and Jorge Ortiz (16-9-1), and a first round TKO win over Josh Martin (7-6-1), all in 2010.
The Martin-Lima fight rounds out main card for MFC 3. The HDNet televised main card is as follows:
- Rameau Sokoudjou vs. Ryan Jimmo, MFC light-heavyweight title
- Terry Martin vs. Dhiego Lima, catchweight
- Richie Whitson vs. Kajan Johnson, lightweight
- Adam Lynn vs. Curtis Demarce, lightweight
- Sabah Fadai vs. Mukai Maromo, lightweight
- Ryan Chiappe vs. Cody Krahn, welterweight
