Let’s just be clear before this starts. I am one of you guys. The fact that I am not getting Tony Ferguson versus Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed lightweight championship at UFC 249 bothers me just as much as it does you. The replacement fight is acceptable but it is only for the interim lightweight championship.

Tony Ferguson will be facing Justin Gaethje this Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida instead of Khabib. To be fair, Justin is not the same caliber of fighter as the Russian is but that doesn’t mean he’s not capable of beating Tony. In fact he is probably a nightmare matchup for Tony.

Justin and Tony leave nothing in the cage to pick up when they are done. They don’t leave any what if scenarios to mull over. They would both rather die than lose meaning that Tony is fighting an alternate dimension version of himself. Both of them can strike and both of them have grappling skills to complement it.

Tony is on a 12 fight win streak while Justin is three and two in his last five. His two losses are by way of knockout which doesn’t mean that he’s got a glass chin it just means that he’s reckless. Tony is the type of fighter to take advantage of that. He’s also the kind of guy with balls big enough to call Justin “one dimensional“.

Justin did not take kindly to that and responded proudly that he’s glad that his one dimension is what it is.

Do you think Justin can pull off the upset and set up a showdown with Khabib or do you think Tony takes it and that fight with Khabib may finally materialize.
