anthony johnsonThat’s the word from UFC President Dana White:

Anthony Johnson (16-4) will return to the UFC after a 2 year absence to face Phil Davis at UFC 172 in a light heavyweight bout. Johnson competed in the UFC as a welterweight primarily before missing weight repeatedly and ultimately being released from the UFC following a first round submission loss against Vitor Belfort at UFC 142. However, he’s fought at heavyweight and light heavyweight in the World Series of Fighting promotion since his departure, winning six consecutive fights, with four of those fights ending via TKO/KO.

Phil Davis (12-1, 1NC) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Lyoto Machida at UFC 163. Davis has won three consecutive fights since suffering the lone loss on his record against Rashad Evans in January 2012.

The UFC 172 event will be headlined by the UFC light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and challenger Glover Teixeira. The event will take place at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
