ufc on fox sports 1: 1[ads1]The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced the full and official fight card for what UFC President Dana White is calling “the most stacked card in UFC history”. “UFC on FOX Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen” (UFC on FOX Sports 1: 1) takes place Saturday, Aug. 17, at TD Garden in Boston, Mass., and the event will mark the UFC’s debut on the new UFC on FOX Sports 1 channel.

Headlining the card is a light heavyweight match-up between two of the UFC’s biggest stars, former 205-pound champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-17) and former No. 1 middleweight contender Chael Sonnen (28-13-1).

In the co-headliner, former K-1 and Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem (36-12-1) returns to action against a Jackson’s MMA heavyweight on the brink of stardom, Travis Browne (14-1-1).

UFC President Dana White commented on returning to his hometown of Boston:

“We’re finally coming back to Boston and we’re bringing the most stacked card in UFC history. In the main event, former UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua takes on Chael Sonnen, who once again stepped up and asked for a big fight. Then we have Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne in a heavyweight fight. Both of those guys have heavy hands, so I expect someone to get knocked out! The rest of the card is loaded with exciting fights, including Urijah Faber vs. Yuri Alcantara, Matt Brown vs. Thiago Alves, Boston’s Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Johnson, Uriah Hall vs. Nick Ring, and Irish superstar Conor McGregor vs. Andy Ogle. Boston, we’re coming back on Aug. 17!”

Also on the card, perennial top contender Urijah Faber (28-6) takes on Brazilian bantamweight Yuri Alcantara (27-4). The always entertaining Matt Brown (19-11) looks to continue his run toward the welterweight title against Thiago Alves (24-8).

TUF 17 runner-up Uriah Hall (8-3) faces Canadian middleweight Nick Ring (13-2). And Boston’s own Joe Lauzon (22-8) takes on TUF 12 runner-up Michael Johnson (13-8) in a lightweight showdown.

In Fox Sports 1: 1 preliminary card action which will also be televised on the five-hour broadcast, England’s Brad Pickett (24-7) takes on bantamweight contender Michael McDonald (15-2). Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown (26-8) faces Sweden’s Akira Corassani (13-4-1).

TUF 14 winner Diego Brandao (21-8,) faces Texan Daniel Pineda (17-9) at featherweight. And rounding out the televised card will be Irish knockout artist Conor McGregor (13-2) taking on England’s Andy Ogle (9-2) at featherweight.

In the Facebook prelims, TUF 5 teammates Manny Gamburyan (12-7) and Cole Miller (19-7) clash at featherweight*. Denver’s Cody Donovan (8-2) takes on former University of Tennessee linebacker Ovince Saint Preux (13-5) at light heavyweight. And  TUF 13 runner-up Ramsey Nijem (8-3) taking on unbeaten Texan James Vick (4-0) at lightweight.
