So we were able to experience UFC 153 on Saturday night which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. You can check out the ProMMAnow UFC 153 instant reaction video via Google Hangout right here.
There should be some interesting fights that come out of the event, and we’re going to do our best to play UFC matchmaker for main card winner’s. Check it out below:
–Anderson Silva: There’s talk of Silva fighting Georges St. Pierre, Jon Jones, and you still have Michael Bisping and Chris Weidman in the picture at middleweight. I’d like to see Silva stay at middleweight and fight either or Weidman. Weidman probably deserves the fight more because he has beaten better competition, but Bisping is the better PPV draw.
–Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira: Man, he’s my favorite fighter of all time. He’s still a top heavyweight, but he’s only a gatekeeper as long as his understudy Junior dos Santos is the champion. A fight with Stefan Struve would be exciting and would be a very good test for Struve since he wants to fight top competition. If not, a bout with Cheick Kongo will do since they were originally supposed to fight at UFC 149.
–Glover Teixeira: He said he only wants to fight a motivated Rampage Jackson. I don’t know if he’ll get that, but I do know if he stands with Jackson it’ll be sheer fireworks. If not Jackson, a bout with Phil Davis would be perfect.
–Jon Fitch: Fitch is in a tough spot. He’s a gatekeeper as long as Georges St. Pierre is the champion. A bout with Nick Diaz when he returns from suspension would be good stuff. All the other top welterweights have fights coming up for the most part.
–Phil Davis: See above.
–Demian Maia: Man, he took out a tough Rick Story with relative ease. Story was a top 15 welterweight, so now it’s time for Maia to fight someone that’s top ten. Why waste any time. Just go ahead and put him in there with Jake Ellenberger who is near title contention. A win over Ellenberger would put him one or two wins away from a title shot.
What matchups would you guys like to see next?
A win over Ellenberger would put Maia 1 win away from title contention, not 2. This guy doesn’t have to prove himself. Anderson was so afraid of his BJJ that he kept his distance and couldn’t stop him. That’s Anderson Silva, people.
I said one or two…certainly wouldn’t be a guaranteed title shot..Hendricks and Kampmann are closer to a shot IMO..now if he treated Ellenberger the same way he did Story…it’s certainly possible.
