Alistair Overeem

UFC President Dana White said that nothing was written in stone at the time, but that it’s possible that Alistair Overeem could fight the winner of the UFC 155 title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The earliest the fight could take place is March 2013.

White communicated the news in a UFC 153 post event interview with MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.

Alistair Overeem (36-11, 1NC) is currently serving his nine month suspension imposed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for having elevated testosterone levels in a pre-fight test. The results were revealed after his UFC 141 victory over Brock Lesnar in December 2011.

Overeem was scheduled to face Junior dos Santos at UFC 146, but was pulled from the event and replaced by Frank Mir when news of the elevated testosterone became known. Overeem is the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion who has not lost since September 2007, a span of 11 fights in which he has finished every opponent except one. He’ll be eligible to apply for his fighting license with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on December 27th.

Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos will fight at UFC 155 on December 29th, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be a rematch from their November 2011 fight in which Junior dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez in just 64 seconds to become the new UFC heavyweight champion.
