The UFC Bantamweight Champion and TUF 14 coach Dominick Cruz is out of his UFC 148 title defense against Urijah Faber at UFC 148 due to an ACL injury. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news via his Twitter account a few minutes ago:

It’s true Cruz blew his ACL. Stay tuned for more info

The news was first reported by the site PhyteGurus. It’s unclear at this time how long Cruz will be out with the injury, or if Urijah Faber will stay on the UFC 148 card against another opponent. There is speculation that an interim title fight could take place since the injury could keep Cruz out of action for quite a while. However, that’s just speculation at this point.

UFC 148 is set to take place on July 7th, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be headlined by the much anticipated rematch between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and number one contender Chael Sonnen.
