UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (14-1) will make his first title defense on Saturday, May 26, when he takes on former Strikeforce heavyweight champ and 2010 K-1 World GP champion Alistair Overeem (36-11, 1 NC) in the UFC 146 main event LIVE on Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed the match-up Tuesday via UFC.com.

Dos Santos has won eight straight fights since making his UFC debut in Oct. 2008 with a first round knockout of Fabricio Werdum at UFC 90. “Cigano” won the UFC heavyweight title with a first round knockout of Cain Velasquez during the UFC’s live debut on Fox television this past November. The bout lasted all of one minute four seconds.

Overeem is riding an 11-fight win streak. “The Demolition Man” exploded onto the UFC in December 2011 by taking out the promotion’s biggest and brightest star, Brock Lesnar. It took Overeem just two minutes and twenty-six seconds to stop the former WWE superstar with powerful strikes to a body that had undergone surgery for diverticulitis just months prior.
