MOREHEAD, Ky. — Mixed martial arts fans at the sold out Morehead Conference Center walked away with a new appreciation for local MMA as Spartan Fighting Championship showed why they are a regional powerhouse in the tri-state area.

Some customers were turned away from the door as the venue was remanded to standing room only. Team Jorge Gurgel fighters got back on the winning track and local favorites brought the crowd to their feet.

Twelve fights cleared the commission including two amateur title fights and three professional battles. Here are the “SFC 12: Invasion” event results and play by play for the title fights as well as the professional bouts.

Billy Poe (7-4) vs Steven Bell (4-3)

Amateur Middleweight Title Fight

Round 1 – Billy takes center control comes out strong with a nice body kick that has Steven in a little pain. Billy attempts a head kick but Steven ducks under and shoots in but its stuffed by Billy. The fighters are clinched up against the cage with Billy having outside control. Billy is now going for a double leg takedown and is able to get it after staying committed to it. Billy looks for better position and is able to get from full-guard to half-guard. Billy still on top in the half looks for some shots to open up Steven. Steven going a good job at holding Billy down but not for long as Billy maneuvers and gets full-mount position and is starting to rain down some heavy punches and the crowd goes wild and the bell sounds ending the round.

Round 2 – Billy comes out again and takes center but Steven comes forward with a combo that backs Billy up. Billy with connects with a huge head kick that appears to have knocked Steven out but by time Billy is able to engage him he is able to recover and get Billy down to the ground. Steven is on top in full-guard position, Billy using the fence with his feet is able to sweep and get the back of Steven. Billy now has the body triangle locked in with his legs and is landing some shots to the ribs of Steven. Steven trying to use the fence as well is unable to as Billy as the body triangle locked in deep. Billy looks for the opening and almost had the rear-naked in but Steven is able to get out of the choke. Billy landing some shots but the bell sounds ending the round.

Round 3 – Fighters come out swinging each one missing and Steven shots in for the takedown but its stuffed by Billy up against the cage. Billy is able to use the momentum and take Steven down and lands in full-mount position. Steven again doing a good job and holding down Billy to prevent any damage but not for too long as Billy is able to break free and is raining down punches. Steven doing a good job at defending; Billy looks worn out from the onslaught of heavy punches is laying down on Steven going to the ribs now. Billy with some knees to the ribs of Steven but the bell sounds ending the round.

Round 4 – Billy comes out with a huge left hook follows it up with some punches but backs off. Billy attempts a head kick but misses and falls to his face where Steven is able to jump on Billy and lock in a standing guillotine choke. Billy with a weak single leg takedown is able to get Steven to the ground but in the sitting position. Billy transitions to side-control and has Steven up against the cage trying to get him down. Billy finally able to get Steven down on his back is now in half-guard position. Billy working puts his knee across the chest of Steven and gets full-mount. Billy with some shots to the head opens up Steven a little where Billy can land one nice shot but the bell sounds ending the round.

Round 5 – Onto the fifth and final round where Steven comes out takes center throws some heavy over hands misses both of them but goes for the takedown and is able to get it. Steven on top in the north-south position not for long as Billy is able to get Steven back to the full-guard position. Steven trying to pass but is unsuccessful. Billy holding Steven close to prevent any damage looks for a triangle but misses the submission attempt. Steven picking up Billy tries to drag him back to his corner for some advice. Steven going to the ribs of Billy opens him up for some heavy punches to the face of Billy. Not much after that as the bell sounds ending the round.
