Randy “The Natural” Couture and Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira both verbally agreed to face off at UFC 101. The two former UFC heavyweight champions will step into the Octagon at a yet to be announced date in August.

Couture (16-9) and Noguiera (31-5-1) found themselves on the losing side of the UFC’s pseudo heavyweight tournament in their last bouts, with both men losing their titles to Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir respectively.

A win would most certainly catapult the victor back into title contention; however, the loser could face many questions surrounding their status within the division as well as retirement.

Couture had originally been considered to headline UFC 99’s Germany card; however, his filming schedule for a new Sylvester Stallone movie prevents him from training for any card that would occur before July.

Kevin Iole had speculated on Steve Cofield’s ESPN 1100 UFC 95 post show, that a Fedor vs. Randy bout would not be too far-fetched for UFC 100. However, the recent agreement between the former UFC champions indicates that any speculation of Fedor facing Couture in July will not come to fruition.

No official bout agreement has yet been signed for this fight.
