Three reasons why Lyoto Machida should get the next UFC middleweight title shot

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida earned a clear unanimous decision win over Gegard Mousasi in the main event of the UFC Fight Night 36 card that took place in Brazil on Saturday night. Machida used lots of movement to frustrate a usually stoic Mousasi, while landing the majority of the harder strikes during the five round bout.

Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi video highlights

Lyoto Machida is looking very fast and strong at 185 pounds. First he knocked out Mark Munoz, and now he has defeated Gegard Mousasi in a dominant five-round decision. We gave one round to Mousasi here at ProMMAnow.com, but the Karate Kid was able to use his evasive footwork and fast-twitch striking to out-point Mousasi and nearly take his head off in the process. Take a look at these highlights from the UFC Fight Night 36 main event.

Machida, Mousasi, Silva and Oliveira take home $50,000 each in bonuses at UFN 36

Out of 12 fights there were only two stoppages at UFC Fight Night 36 Saturday night in Jargua do Sul, Brazil. That’s two events in a row for the UFC that have resulted in 10 decisions. Regardless of that fact, the main card was entertaining and the UFC implemented their new performance bonus structure.

UFC Fight Night 36: Deciding Who’s Next

Chris Weidman won his title from a Brazilian, his first defense will be against a Brazilian and UFN 36 will likely present him with his next challenger – and you guessed it, it’ll probably be a Brazilian.

Behind Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort in the UFC middleweight rankings sit Jacare Souza (#3) and Lyoto Machida (#4). All four are from the nation famed for big butts, beaches and football (soccer for you Americans).

Does a change in wording mean anything for UFC ‘of the night’ winners

UFC officials announced a change in the way fight night bonuses are labeled. Is this a move to be more politically correct? Gone are the standard “submission and knockout of the night” tags. In a press release we learned that there would still be a “fight of the night” bonus for the winner and loser of the most spectacular fight at a given event. Replacing the finishing bonuses will be “performance of the night”. Here is how it has been explained.
