UFC Fight Night 36 takes place this evening at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Headlining the card is a four-man middleweight tournament of sorts between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi in the main event, and Francis Carmont vs. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the co-main event.

145 lbs: Andy Ogle vs. Charles Oliveira
Round 1 – Right left right from Ogle, couple left hooks as Oliveira lands a front kick and a takedown.Oliveira on top in full mount. Ogle tries to buck out, gives up his back. Both hooks in for Oliveira and looking for the choke as Ogle stands up against the cage. Oliveira with a body triangle, lands an elbow to the side of the head, trying to soften Ogle up as he looks for the Rear-Naked Choke. They fall to the ground with Oliveira still locked on the back via body triangle and looking for the submission. They roll. Oliveira lands some punches, both hooks in, no longer with body triangle — scratch that — back with the body triangle briefly. Ogle squirming and trying to defend as he gets to one knee and tries to roll. 30 seconds to go. Oliveira lands some more shots while on Ogle’s back. PMN sees the round 10-9 for Oliveira.
Round 2 – Oliveira puts out his hand to tap gloves but Ogle decides to throw a one-two instead. The crowd boos and Oliveira shoots for a takedown, stuffed. They exchange shots before Oliveira scores a takedown, Ogle reverses and has top position inside full guard. Shoulder strike from Ogle as he fights to hold Oliveira down. Oliveira gets up, back to cage. Left hook from Ogle as he backs up. Oliveira counters a kick with a takedown. Ogle trying to back up to the cage as Oliveira tries to prevent it. Ogle is able to use the cage to get up. They square up in the center and Oliveira goes for a takedown. Ogle reverses but ends up in a choke from Oliveira, he readjusts, but Ogle scrambles and tries to take Oliveira’s back. Oliveira gets to his feet. Ogle presses him to the cage and gives a foot stomp. Ogle picks Oliveira up for a body slam. Oliveira holding his neck, Ogle moves inside the guard and throws some punches. Oliveira trying to attack with a triangle, Ogle defending, takes a punch from Oliveira off his back. Oliveira gets to his feet and lands a knee to Ogle’s face from the clinch, then drags him back down while attacking from his back. Bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Oliveira.
Round 3 – Leg kick from Oliveira. Oliveira drops Ogle with a counter left as Ogle throws a kick. Oliveira jumps on his back looking for the choke but Ogle escapes to his feet where his opponent meets him. Ogle looks for and succeeds with a takedown, now inside the full guard of Oliveira. Ogle bleeding from the top of his head. Back to the feet as Oliveira kicks him off. Oliveira eats a left, comes forward and lands a front kick. They trade punches before Oliveira goes for a takedown, Ogle scrambles and ends up on top inside full guard. 3 minutes to go. Ogle lands an elbow to the body then a right hand to the head. Ogle postures up. Oliveira looking for the up kick, locks up a triangle and Ogle taps out. Oliveira succeeds in getting the first stoppage of the night.

170 lbs: Viscarde Andrade vs. Nicholoas Musoke
Round 1 – Leg kick Andrade, countered with a one two from Musoke. Right from Andrade. Body kick from Musoke. He throws a left but Andrade times it perfectly by shooting under for a takedown. Andrade inside full guard, working the ground and pound and landing lefts. Musoke using the cage to get up. Andrade backs out as Musoke stalks and lands a left jab. Leg kick Andrade. Huge overhand right lands on the side of the head and drops Musoke. Andrade prematurely throws up his hands like it’s over but the ref lets it go. Andrade meets him on the mat inside guard with ground and pound. Musoke trying to hold on with just under two minutes to go in the round. Musoke gets to his feet. They square up. Jab from Musoke, then a body shot. Andrade with a left hook. Right from Musoke. Body shot, left hook to the face from Musoke. Leg kick Andrade. Left hook from Musoke. Leg kick Andrade, knee to the body in the clinch. Body kick Musoke. And he survives the round. PMN sees the round 10-9 for Andrade.
Round 2 -Body shot from Musoke. Front kick. Andrade looks for that overhand right again but Musoke ties him up against the cage, gets a takedown but Andrade bounces right up. Musoke holds on, drags him back down for a split second, now pressing him to the cage. Knees to the thighs from Musoke. Andrade turns him around, backs out. Body shot from Andrade but eats a jab. Again, as his hands are down. Lazy shot, stuffed, right hand and a left head kick from Musoke. He’s teeing off now with punches, Musoke picks him up now for a double leg takedown, now inside Andrade’s full guard. Right hand to the body and head from Musoke. He postures up with two big right hands. Andrade trying to punch off his back but that does about as much damage as a noodle on a hammer. Hammerfists from Musoke. He postures up with another big right. One minute to go. Andrade hanging tough. Big elbow from Musoke. More elbows, first to the body, then head. More elbows as Andrade hangs on with full guard. Round 3 – Left right from Musoke as he blocks an overhand right. Musoke lands more punches while Andrade drops his hands. Overhand right from Andrade. Musoke shoots, presses Andrade to the cage. Knees to the thigh from Musoke, tries to take Andrade’s back, now holding him around the waist, drags him down, now jumps on the back with both hooks in. Musoke a purple belt on the black belt’s back. Body triangle from Musoke. 2 minutes left. They roll, Musoke looking for the Rear-Naked Choke, landing punches trying to soften the Brazilian up. 1 minute to go. Brazilian crowd boos the Swede. Musoke finishes the round and fight on Andrade’s back. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Musoke and the fight 29-28 for Musoke.

170 lbs: Takenori Sato vs. Erick Silva
Round 1 – Touch gloves. Sato the protege of Sakuraba. Big body kick from Silva, Sato shoots and grabs the single leg. Silva gives him kicks to the head with his opposite foot — behind the back — while Sato is holding the leg. The first kicks was actually illegal but not called. Silva then lands several big shots to the temple as Sato holds the leg and the Japanese fighter goes to sleep face first and we have the first stoppage by strikes of the night. Short and sweet. The audience thanks you Erick Silva.

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Front kick Carmont. Left hook Carmont. Spin kick from Jacare, right hook lands and Carmont touches the ground long enough for Jacare to jump on his back and lock in a body triangle. Not where Carmont wants to be. Jacare looking for the choke. They roll as Jacare softens him up with punches. Carmont tries to stand but Jacare stops it. Carmont defending the choke with wrist control and throwing blind punches. Jacare gets his forearm under the chin. His eyes roll back in his head but somehow survives. Wow! 30 seconds left in the round. Jacare still on his back as Carmont holds on wrist control. Carmont is able to spin around after throwing punches blindly, and ends up in top control in guard. Time up. PMN sees the round 10-9 for Souza.
Round 2 – Mean mug from Carmont. Big leg kick from Carmont. Another leg kick. Jab from Carmont. Leg kick from Jacare, couple right hands, then he shoots, stuffed. Kick from Carmont blocked. Leg kick Carmont. Body shot from Jacare, then follows up with punches. Carmont smiles and tells him to bring it on. Carmont shoots, stuffed. Left right from Jacare. Front kick Carmont. Right from Carmont, Jacare slips to the ground, right back up. Leg kick Carmont. Good head movement from Jacare. Lands a right. Front kick Carmont. Jacare shoots, presses Carmont to the cage. Knee to the leg. Jacare backs out. He swings big and Carmont lands a nice counter shot. Carmont with a jab. Jacare got a little sloppy there and ate that counter. Left right from Carmont. Lots of mean mugging from Carmont. He’s not intimidated in the least by Souza. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Jacare. Could go either way possibly.
Round 3 – Leg kick Carmont. Jab and a right. Jab. Body shot Jacare, pressing forward. Jab from Carmont. Again. Jacare scores a takedown, takes full mount and landing punches. Carmont gives up the back and is eating big hammerfists. Jacare looking for the choke, landing more punches. Jacare loses back control, but still riding Carmont with one hook in. Carmont gets to his knees, tries to get up but Jacare gets the body triangle and drags him back down. Carmont with wrist control, lands some punches with the other hand. Jacare softening him up with under 90 seconds to go. Jacare tries to lock on the choke/neck crank. No dice. Under a minute to go. Carmont desperately tries to spin around in the guard but Jacare stays on him. This one’s going the distance guys. Jacare goes for the choke one last time but time is up. Great fight. Carmont stands and raises his hands. PMN sees the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Jacare.

Round 1 – Machida has Rafael Cordeiro and Rener Gracie in his corner. A guy stole Machida’s hat as he was walking to the Octagon. Machida gave him a death stare and the guy threw it right back. That’s jedi mind power there folks. Mario Yamasaki is the referee. Touch gloves. Machida checks a leg kick. Leg kick Machida. Big big body kick from Machida. Leg kick. Leg kick Mousasi. Machida misses the counter punches. Machida misses an uppercut, Mousasi shoots in, stuffed. Left hand Machida. Jab from Mousasi. Mousasi stalking. Machida evading, looking for the counter. Leg kick Mousasi. Front kick Machida. Machida with a beautiful counter left. Body kick and leap in knee attempt from Machida. Leg kick Mousasi before the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 Machida.
Round 2 – Switch kick from Machida blocked. Leg kick Mousasi. Leg kick from Machida. He is so damn fast. His fast twitch muscle reflex is insane. Nice leg kick from Mousasi inside. Machida in side mount, now in the butterfly guard of Mousasi. Mousasi sweeps Machida. Machida attacks for a kimura from half guard. Mousasi now on top in full guard. Omoplata from Machida, Mousasi escapes and lands an elbow. Under a minute to go in the round. Body shots from Mousasi. Mousasi postures up. Machida rolls, Mousasi takes his back, goes too high and falls off. Machida on top and Mousasi lands a very hard illegal up kick to the head of Machida. Round 5 – Touch gloves. Machida checks a leg kick. Mousasi dodges punches and a high kick. Mousasi lands a counter punch as Machida comes in. Machida goes for a hand on the ground kick, no dice. Low hands from Machida. Very dangerous. Big step in knee from Machida scores. Nice jab from Mousasi catching Machida’s hands down. Mousasi still stalking. Machida’s nose bleeding. Leg kick Machida. Mousasi shoots, stuffed. Machida lands on top in half guard. Almost gets to mount. Half butterfly from Mousasi. 90 seconds to go. Mousasi tries to sweep, almost gets it but Machida is able to take his back with both hooks in. Mousasi stands briefly but goes back to his knees as he tries to shake Machida off. 30 seconds left. They roll over. Machida looking for the choke. Mousasi escapes before the bell. Machida hops up and dives at Mousasi with a quick right hand that seems to score at the bell. Trying to finish until the very end — that is what the fans want to see. Great fight. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 49-46 for Machida.
