UFC 97 in danger of not happening

UFC 97, featuring a main event Middleweight Title fight between Anderson Silva (23-4, UFC 8-0) and Thales Leites (14-1, UFC 5-1), is set to take place April 17 in Montreal, Canada. Although tickets for UFC 97 went on sale Wednesday and 12,000 are already sold, the event is now in danger of not happening due to a conflict with the rules.

Do you remember UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2? If you do, you are doing better than the Quebec Athletic Commission. They have apparently forgot that in the UFC fighters are allowed to strike with knees and elbows because they are now saying those things are not allowed according to the rules of their athletic commission.

Clementi gets 'no love' from UFC

It is house cleaning time again for the world’s leading mixed martial arts promotion. It has been reported that the UFC has released veteran Rich Clementi (32-14-1) and ATT fighter, Luigi Fioravanti (14-5) from their contracts. The news comes just days after both fighters were defeated on the UFC Fight Night 17 card.

Clementi gave up a first round submission loss to Gleison Tibau and Fioravanti lost by TKO, also in round one, to Anthony Johnson. The loss was Clementi’s second in a row, having lost to Gray Maynard back at UFC 90 in the fall. The Dana White business model

Since acquiring PRIDE FC back in March of 2007, Dana White and the Ferttita brothers staked claim to being the clear-cut number one mixed martial arts promotion in the world. However, White’s business practices remain scrutinized by MMA fans and pundits.

If it’s firing Jon Fitch for a day because of a video game, cutting Matt Lindland over a t-shirt or airing old Pay-Per-View broadcasts opposite of Affliction cards, Dana’s every move seems to be examined under a microscope.

While his methods may be questionable, there can be no denial that his results remain second to none. Despite the undeniable success of the UFC, one area where White has not prevailed has been signing the number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko.
