Now, to be fair Dustin Poirier favors other fighters against the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson but he is only passionate about a specific one. That man is Justin Gaethje.

I am big into mixed martial arts but I really didn’t pay Gaethje that much mind to be honest. The first time he hit my radar was unfortunately the two fight losing streak he was on. Those losses were also via brutal knockouts so those didn’t do him any favors either.

He is 3-2 in the UFC but there are people who inevitably put him up there with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Both are on a ridiculous 12 – count them – 12 fight UFC win streak and were supposed to settle who the real number one was this month. Unfortunately, as we all know the coronavirus pandemic has killed any hope of that bout happening likely for the rest of the year. It’s and uncertain time for MMA to be sure.

To the original point, Justin Gaethje was knocked out by Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier back to back. So why in the world would Poirier think Justin could beat current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov? The man that Dustin got submitted by? I tried to reason it out in my head but I couldn’t and I’m still not seeing a scenario where Gaethje beats either of those men. Thankfully there is a clip out there of Poirier explaining his point.
