Matt Brown vs Jordan Mein

The UFC on FOX 7 event took place Saturday night from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

The main event saw Ben Henderson retain his UFC lightweight title with a split decision win over Gilbert Melendez. However, there were four fighters that took home some extra change for their performances.

Yoel Romero, Josh Thomson, Matt Brown, and Jordan Mein all earned fight bonuses worth $50,000.

Yoel Romero got things started in the very first preliminary fight on the card as he earned a “Knockout of the Night” bonus when he connected with a flying knee to put Clifford Starks out for the count.

Josh Thomson also earned a “Knockout of the Night” bonus as he became the first fighter to stop Nate Diaz via TKO. Thomson landed a headkick in the first round that Diaz was able to shake off. He landed mostly with the foot, but landed the same kick again in the second round while connecting with his shin which rocked Diaz. Thomson then followed up withe strikes as Diaz moved into the fetal position. His corner actually threw in the towel just before the referee stopped the fight.

Matt Brown and Jordan Mein earned “Fight of the Night” honors for their back and forth war. Brown pressed the action early in the fight and was getting the better of the exchanges, but Mein landed a punch to the body that put Brown down. Brown was able to survive and worked to get back to his feet and press the action again before the round ended. Brown picked up where he left off in the second and finished Mein via TKO to win his fifth fight in a row.

There were two “Knockout of the Night” bonuses awarded because there was no “Submission of the Night”.
