UFC welterweight Demian Maia

UFC officials announced two bouts for UFC 153 via the UFC website today. Demian Maia will take on Rick Story in a welterweight battle, and Diego Brandao will face Joey Gambino in a featherweight scrap.

UFC 153 is set to take place on October 13th in Rio de Janeiro at the HSBC Arena, and will be headlined by a UFC featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Erik Koch.

Demian Maia (16-4) is coming off a TKO(via injury) win over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 149. It was Maia’s welterweight debut after competing exclusively as a middleweight in the UFC. He made the move after going (3-2) after his UFC middleweight title fight loss against Anderson Silva at UFC 112.

Rick Story (14-5) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Brock Jardine in June. Story had lost back-to-back fights prior to the win, but had rattled off six consecutive wins before that. Story holds a notable win over former number one contender Thiago Alves.

Diego Brandao (14-8) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Darren Elkins at UFC 146. It was his fight official UFC fight after winning the TUF 14 competition. He’ll be looking to right the ship in front of his home crowd in Brazil.

Joey Gambino (9-1) is coming off a submission loss against Steven Siler in his UFC debut in June. Gambino was highly touted prior to signing with the UFC and will look to gain some respect with a win over a veteran like Brandao.
