SAN JOSE, Calif. — It was a night of finishes on Showtime Saturday night at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg” held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
In the main event, Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz successfully defended his title against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos via second round armbar submission.
Cyborg landed multiple vicious leg kicks and some big punches in the first round but Diaz never retreated and continued throwing combinations of punches that eventually wore Cyborg down. Near the end of round two Cyborg took Diaz down and moments later he was tapping out.
In the co-main event, middleweight champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza defeated Robbie Lawler via rear-naked choke in the third round.
Also competing on the Showtime-televised main card, forty-eight-year-old football legend and 1992 Olympian Herschel Walker stopped Scott Carson in round two and Roger Gracie upheld the honor of his family name by defeating MMA veteran Trevor Prangley via rear-naked choke in the first round.
