OAKLAND, Calif. – The “UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen” fighter weigh-ins took place today at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., the same location as Saturday night’s fight card headlined by middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his title against Chael Sonnen.

A taped replay of the UFC 117 weigh-ins will be available for viewing in ProMMAnow.com’s UFC ROOM shortly after the live broadcast.

There were a couple of hiccups at the weigh-ins. As suspected and despite what he said at Thursday’s press conference, Thiago Alves did indeed have trouble making weight and despite getting naked was still a half pound over the 171 lb. welterweight non-title fight limit. He has been given two hours to drop the extra half pound.

Also, on the preliminary card, Tim Boetsch was a half pound over the light heavyweight non-title fight limit of 206 lbs. on his first try. However, he removed his shorts and hit the 206 lb. mark.

In the most anticipated weigh-in of the night, both Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen weighed in on point. Silva was a half pound under the middleweight title fight limit and Sonnen was right on the money at 185 lbs.

After they weighed in, Silva walked over to Sonnen who was waiting for the customary stare down and photo-op. As can be seen in the photo above, Silva ignored  and refused to look at Sonnen, which has basically been his response to the middleweight contender for the past few months, despite Sonnen’s continuous and outlandish trash talk.

**Thiago Alves missed weight by a half pound. He has two hours to make the weight or will have to forfeit 20% of his purse to his opponent.

UPDATE: (8-7-10) It has been reported that Thiago Alves failed at cutting the final half pound he was over and does indeed have to forfeit 20% of his purse to his opponent, Jon Fitch. This is a terrible shame and is a bad sign going in against someone like Fitch. Alves really needs to get this weight thing under control. He needs to either move up in weight class or find a dietitian who can help.
