Brian Imes wins pounds on his opponent.

Following my victory over Ryan Lopez I took two weeks off to rest a sprained neck. I spent some great down time with family and friends over Christmas and New Year.

Upon my rest I realized that I have a lot to be thankful for this new year. I have finished two of my last three opponents. Both of those men have had 20+ professional fights. I am now 5-3 in just a year and a half of professional competition.

Two years ago I was having trouble walking with a badly herniated disc in my lower back. I pulled my head out of a whiskey bottle and put my ass on the line. I left a successful career behind me to chase a childish dream and have lost nearly everything in the process.

Now I smile as big as my dreams. The feeling of accomplishing something so intangible is priceless. I have made very little money fighting, but I have earned so much more than ever before.

The assets that were truly missing from my portfolio were confidence and grace.

I knew I needed to risk it all in order to learn them. Maybe it was being choked unconscious in Oklahoma City that opened the gates, but in all seriousness it is the competition.

My life now revolves around fitness, nutrition and mental wellness. Without these disciplines, work can be painful. I have no interest in being another professional fighter, but every reason in the world to be an amazing fighter.

I want the most out of life and I have always put in the work. My accomplishments outside the cage only foster my progress inside it. In 2010 Brian Imes will capitalize on the greatest risk of his life. Bet on it!
