The Ultimate Fighter: US vs. UK has come to an end. This Saturday the winners of season 9 will be decided and one new welterweight and one new lightweight fighter will be added to the UFC roster.

Some of the greatest TV series of all time did not last as long as TUF. What I consider to be the best TV series ever, The Sopranos, only went through season six. The Wire only went five. Hell, the Brady Bunch only lasted five seasons.

For a series to go nine full seasons is nothing short of spectacular; and it is not done yet, which is even more remarkable for several reasons, not the least of which is arguably how stale the show has become.

I missed an episode or two or three this season and it did not bother me in the least; something that would not have happened a few seasons ago.

Honestly, the last season I was really into was season six when Mac Danzig won. Something seemed to have changed following that season. Whether it be the personalities of the fighters or the level of competition, I’m not sure. It just seems something is missing.

Having said that, I’m really looking forward to season 10 with the heavyweights. For one thing, I have always loved watching heavyweights fight. On top of that, there are quite a few well known fighters competing.

It is more appealing when there are fighters on the show that people are familiar with. Many of the competitors on TUF 10 already have made at least somewhat of a name for themselves, and it is exciting to think how these big guys are going to match up with one another.

Make no mistake, Kimbo Slice appearing on The Ultimate Fighter season 10 is huge. People are still curious about this guy. Could Kimbo possibly win the whole show and get a six-figure contract with the UFC? Will he fight in the UFC even if he fails to win TUF? There are lots of questions to be answered.

To summarize, I am glad we are done with TUF 9, and TUF 8 and TUF 7 for that matter. Let’s move on to the heavyweights. It has been a long time coming.

By the way, Justin Wren is my pick to win TUF 10.

  1. It’s interesting Justin Wren said he would like to fight Kimbo in his interview with PRO MMA and a year later he might get the chance on TUF. That could be very bad for Kimbo.
