The year was 2002, the organization was the WFA (World Fighting Alliance) out of Las Vegas. It was their third event. Trigg defeated LaVerne Clark at WFA 1 and Jason Medina at WFA 2. At this point, Trigg was 9-1, with his only loss coming from Hayato Sakurai at Shooto in 2000. He was facing a very tough Dennis Hallman who had already given Matt Hughes his first two losses. Hallman was a very established veteran with a record of 23-6-1 when he met first met Trigg at WFA 3.
The fight ends in controversy as Hallman apparently received a low blow. After a few minutes of trying to recover, Hallman is unable to continue and Trigg is awarded the victory and the title. They would meet again two years later at ‘UFC 48: Payback’ to try and settle the controversy. However, Trigg put an exclamation point on the victory by finishing Hallman once again in the first round, however, this time it was by punches.
