As previously reported by Pro MMA, UFC veteran Drew Fickett suffered a major upset defeat at the hands of Richard Villes at last Saturday night’s Rage in the Cage 113 event. Fickett has had a run of bad luck as of late to say the least. Recently being released by Strikeforce and MFC due to contract violations, this recent loss is just the latest of a series of unfortunate events for the former UFC star. Staying true to his controversial form, Fickett’s latest loss is not free from it’s own minor debate.

The early part of round one saw Fickett getting the better of the stand up. About halfway through the first, Fickett secures a takedown and spends the rest of the fight dominating from the top position while searching for numerous submissions. The first round clearly went to Fickett as expected.

What was not expected were the events that took place early in the second round. Drew rushes Villes at the start of the second with a head kick.  Villes wisely blocks the kick and swings Fickett around into the cage where he blasts Fickett with a devastating knee that drops him to the canvas. Villes jumps on Fickett, throwing a fury of punches as Fickett spins around on the ground searching for submissions. Being unable to tie Villes up and Fickett taking a series of unanswered shots prompts the ref to wave the contest off in the second round declaring Villes the winner via TKO. Fickett immediately jumps to his feet protesting what he felt was an early stoppage.

While Fickett appeared to be defending himself and was clear-minded afterwords, the question is, “was he taking too much punishment?”  We’ll leave it up to you. Here is a video of the fight in question. Take a look and let us know. Was the stoppage legit or fubar?
