Mark Coleman – post UFC 93 interview (video)

Mark Coleman is extremely upset after his TKO loss to Shogun Rua Saturday at UFC 93. He admits it is the most disappointing loss of his career due to the referee stopping the bout with only a few seconds left in the match. Coleman talks as if he’s nowhere near retiring which is a bit surprising considering he’s forty-four years of age.

A word from the Editor: Reflections on UFC 93

This is what some UFC 93 fighters needed.

What an interesting card this was. Some crazy fights we had. Fighters were gassed they were. The UFC should refund people a portion of their Pay Per View bill they should.

I was really interested to see what Mark Coleman was going to look like and my worst fears were confirmed. It was as if we had gone back in a time capsule to UFC 1 for that fight.  On one hand the fight was intriguing to watch, but not because it was two of the top MMA fighters in the world testing their skill, but because I was hoping that not only would the completely exasperated Coleman not drop dead in front of my eyes, but for a few moments it even looked like he may win.

UFC 93 fight night bonuses

The UFC awarded $40,000 bonuses on Saturday January 17 at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland. The awards went to the usual categories except there were two “Fight of the Night” bonuses awarded to two different fights.

“The Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis and Chris “Lights Out” Lytle kept their word and delivered a stand up brawl that went to a split decision and deservedly won “Fight of the Night” honors.

The second “Fight of the Night” bonus was awarded to former Pride middleweight Grand Prix winner, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and UFC Hall of Famer, Mark “The Hammer” Coleman. Both fighters gave it all they had (which wasn’t much) and were rewarded the extra bonus for their “show of heart.”

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to fight Keith Jardine at UFC 96

It was announced today during the UFC 93 broadcast from Dublin, Ireland that the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will fight “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine in the main event at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio on March 7, 2009.

Quinton Jackson is coming off a huge knockout win against Wanderlei Silva in a grudge match after Silva defeated Jackson twice in Japan in the PRIDE organization. Keith Jardine is also coming off a win. His victory came at UFC 89 where he eeked out a split decision victory against Brandon “The Truth” Vera.

Surely, Jackson is looking to get back in title contention and with a win over Jardine that is most likely right where he will be. Many thought with his victory over Wanderlei the UFC may already match him up against Rashad Evans for a title shot. It will be very interesting to see who Evans gets matched up with for his first Light Heavyweight Title defense.
