Houston Alexander says he has not been cut from the UFC

Photo: Sherdog - Houston Alexander used a very uncharacteristic game plan to fight Kimbo Slice. The game plan most likely cost him his job.

Despite his recent loss to Kimbo Slice at the TUF 10 Finale, and Dana White’s insistence that Houston Alexander (9-5) would be cut from the UFC roster, the father of six claims he nor his manager, Monte Cox, have received notice of his release,  and “…until that happens, I’m not released,” says Alexander.

Maybe it’s just a matter of semantics, and the axe will drop any day now, but it has been two weeks since his Kalib Starnes-esque performance on Dec. 5. And other fighters on that same card have been released – namely, Justin Wren.

Is it possible White has had second thoughts and decided to keep Alexander, who debuted in the Octagon with a bang, knocking out both Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara in the first round?

Roy “Big Country” Nelson knocks out Brendan Schaub to become The Ultimate Fighter

Roy "Big Country" Nelson becomes the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.

Well, its finally over folks, The Ultimate Fighter season 10 is now complete, and Roy “Big Country” Nelson (14-4, 1-0 UFC) was awarded the highly coveted six-figure contract with the UFC after knocking out Brendan Schaub (4-1, 0-1 UFC) Saturday night at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nev.

Nelson took Schaub down early in round one, but he was able to scramble back to his feet. The two then traded punches with both landing some decent shots. Although Nelson’s greatest strength is his ground game, he was not afraid to stand and trade punches.

With less than two minutes remaining in the opening round, Nelson landed a huge right hand behind Schaub’s ear that cut his lights out, and dropped him flat on his back to the canvas. Roy followed it up with one more for good measure, and just like that, simultaneously dropped the jaws of a few million people.

TUF 10 Finale immediate reaction

The Kimbo Season of The Ultimate Fighter is finally over. The finals featuring Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub just ended. Check out some immediate reaction on that fight and the rest of the card.

Roy Nelson vs. Brendan Schaub
I was just writing down “Roy Nelson gets hit a lot, but he lands his” and then he laid Brendan Schaub out cold with an overhand right. I guess Dana White can say that he is impressed now. Nelson truly is the perfect veteran. He keeps his composure and always implements the same game plan. After having trouble getting into the UFC, it is nice to see that Nelson is where he should be. I’m glad he is still pushing for that Burger King sponsorship deal too.

Schaub was very impressive on the series, and he was landing straight punches against Big Country. He is a high quality athlete, and he will make an impact in the division before his career is over.
