7-0 as an amateur, 1-0 as a professional, heavyweight prospect Chris Barnett will look to keep his undefeated MMA record in tact this weekend as he goes up against Daniel Perez at “XFC 9: Evolution” at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla. The event will air live on HDNet Sat., Sept. 5, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Not many fighters get the opportunity to have their pro debut broadcast live on national TV, but then again there are not too many 265 lbs., back-flipping, break-dancing, martial arts black belts in MMA. At “XFC 8” back in April, Chris Barnett in his first pro fight took ultra-seasoned vet Johnathan Ivey the distance with a unanimous decision butt-kicking in what was Ivey’s 66th professional bout.

XFC returns to Tampa Sept. 5, 2009


On September 5th, 2009 the XFC will reward its fans with one of the most highly competitive fight cards of the year. The XFC promises a night of exciting, unpredictable fights full of action and excitement. September 5th will be the first hometown show in over 10 months and the XFC expects a high attendance upon it’s homecoming. Not to mention it is the first Tampa event to be live on HDnet.

The first “XFC Open Fighter Tryout” exposed the skill of Chris “Beast Boy” Barnett who showcased his exceptional agility and speed in his Pro MMA debut against Jonathan Ivey. Ivey is a MMA veteran and a seasoned fighter with over 70 professional MMA fights.

XFC poised for global expansion – first stop Germany

Florida MMA promotion Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) is looking to broaden their horizons by taking their show international. On Dec. 12, 2009, the XFC will hold an event in Berlin, Germany. Following in the footsteps of the UFC in June, the show will mark only the second American based MMA promotion ever to visit Germany.

The Dec. 12 event will feature some of Germany’s own rising MMA talent as well as fighters from the U.S. XFC President John Prisco spoke about the event. “This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the athleticism and skill of XFC fighters internationally,” said Prisco. 

“It will inspire a greater appreciation and awareness of Germany’s local up-and-coming fighters, and simultaneously expose the future American MMA legends abroad. These fighters will be branded in a global market with opportunities solely limited by the way they present themselves in and out of the cage,” Prisco explained.

UFC Fight Night 17 live gate and bonuses

A crowd of 7,596 enthusiastic fans flocked to the USF Sundome to witness the UFC’s first venture into Tampa. UFC Fight Night 17, headlined by Joe Lauzon and Jeremy Stephens, raked in a live gate of $428,000. The final figures should be released by the Florida State Boxing Commission some time next week.

The last major MMA event held in Florida had been EliteXC’s “Heat” at the Bank Atlantic Center. EliteXC’s final card under the guide of Jeremy Lappen and Jared “Skala” Shaw attracted 7,701 spectators to Sunrise, FL. and fetched a live gate of $677,793 and 847 of those seats had been given out as “comped” tickets.

After UFC Fight Night 17 concluded, Dana White spoke to the St. Petersburg Times and informed them that the UFC will return to Tampa in 2010.
