Although the event was short on the overall number of fights the amount of talent throughout the card made the event a must see. There were to be seven fights on the evening, but we ended up only getting to see six as one of the competitions ended up getting scratched due to one of the strangest events I have seen at any combative sports event I have attended.
“UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira” takes place this Sat., Aug. 29, 2009 in Portland, Ore. That means it is time once again for PRO MMA’s Staff Picks as we give you our oh so professional opinions on who we think will win, who we think will lose, and why.
Joining us for the second UFC in a row to lend his legitimate professional opinion is professional MMA fighter and cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 10: Heavyweights” – JUSTIN WREN. If you have not yet heard, Justin will be writing his official TUF 10 blog this season right here at PRO MMA (promma.info) beginning Sept. 9.
Also joining us for our UFC 102 Staff Picks this time is professional fighter and good friend of the site Billy “24/7” MacDonald. We would like to thank both fighters for lending their picks and without further ado, let’s get to it.
Sponsor-Fighters.com is currently seeking professional men and women mixed martial artists for a potentially international MMA reality show. If selected, you would receive a sponsorship package of money and products, one of your upcoming or recent fights (that you have the video of) televised, a meet and greet/personal training session with a nationally/internationally known mma star, and it all culminates with a televised live fight card as well.
If you are interested, please email me at BILLY247@gmail.com. Please include the following information listed below, photos (action shots preferred), and if you have video of your fights, please include one or two links to those as well. In the email, please list the subject line as “TV Fighter”.
Arlington, TX, Jan. 10th, 2009 – Backalley Promotions out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas has reentered the world of mixed martial arts. They had previously held one event prior to January 10th back in 2002 under Pancrase rules. While that event might not have struck a cord with the local mixed martial arts fans in north Texas, Saturday’s show is definitely going to generate a rippling effect of excitement.
Backalley Promotions owner Mike Bussey has a 20,000 sq ft training facility dubbed simply “The Gym” that also includes a 600 seat auditorium to use to his advantage. Mr. Bussey, along with his sons Chris and Thomas brought some of their professional wrestling experience to the mixed martial arts event on January 10th.
While some feel that we should seperate our sport and sports entertainment, the Xtreme Knockouts 2 event proved that with the right leadership, the sport of mixed martial arts and the showmanship of professional wrestling can be fused into an entertaining product.
Last Friday saw the second edition of Supreme Warrior Championship’s Battle Ground take over the Frisco Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. Athough they began the evening with some technical difficulties, the show ran pretty smoothly for only their second live event.
I couldn’t wait for the fights to start, as the main event promised to be one of the more exciting fights in Texas this year. Jon ” El Jaguar” Kirk (11-4) was taking to the cage to compete against Rafael “Sapo” Natal (he’s 7-1 from the Gracie Fusion team).

Elite Combat League held their “Brawl for a Cause” at the Spirit Bank Event Center in Bixby, Oklahoma on November 1, 2008. Our good friend and PRO MMA sponsored fighter, Billy “24/7” MacDonald made his pro debut and here’s what he had to say about his fight and the event:
“Hey guys, it’s Billy checking back in a couple days after my much anticipated pro debut. My thanks go out to Elite Combat League, their promoter Mike Lowry, and matchmaker Keith McCann for their hospitality and professionalism. I want to thank my opponent Jacob Noe for taking the fight on short notice.
On November 1st Elite Combat League will host a mixed martial arts show at the brand new Spirit Bank Event Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show will consist of 24 talented mixed martial art fighters from around the country for 12 exciting fights including a main event Title Fight.
The event will also feature the pro debut of PRO MMA & TAGG Radio sponsored fighter, Billy “24/7” MacDonald as he steps into the ring against a young man from Memphis, Jacob Noe, also making his pro debut. Good luck Billy; make us proud.
Rich Franklin is also scheduled to make a special appearance at the event and will be available to sign autographs.
I’m going to start with a little background on me. I am the co-owner of WWW.Sponsor-Fighters.com and Reality Entertainment Group based out of Fort Worth, Texas. My professional fight debut will be on November 1st, 2008.
The “24/7” nickname came from a college friend, but it also corresponds with my life in mixed martial arts. As my friends and colleagues would agree, I am pretty much obsessed with the sport. That is why we started the website which offers both marketing and management options and we specialize in finding sponsorships for up and coming fighters (although we do work with some of the bigger names in the sport as well).
I have been fortunate enough to gain many friends and contacts very quickly in this industry mostly due to my friends at TAGG Radio. So to “Gorgeous” George Garcia, Brian “Goze” Garcia, and Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg, thank you for your support, encouragement, and most importantly your friendship. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be able to pursue a career in this sport that I love and would still be an unknown fighter that is struggling to find his way.
by: Jack Bratcher I want to introduce you to a young man who is making waves in the Mixed Martial Arts world in more ways than one. Billy “24-7” MacDonald is one of the hardcore crew over at Tagg Radio. Just like myself and everyone else associated with ProMMA.info, you can find Billy hanging out … Read more
