Affliction’s M1 Global Challenge season opener – results & summary

Photo by Jeff Howard - Dave Jansen wins at M-1 season opener Feb. 21

PRO MMA (promma.info) was live at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington on February 21st for the 2009 “M-1 Challenge Presented by Affliction” season opener. There were a total of 30 fighters, 15 fights, and six teams which included Team Benelux vs. Team Finland, Team South Korea vs. Team Imperial Russia, and Team USA West vs. Team Brazil. It was a great start for the new season and the following is a summary of the night’s events.

The first matchups were Team Finland vs Team Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemborg). The first bout, the lightweights, started off like gangbusters. Both guys were throwing and landing blows from their feet in an almost carefree manner, it was a great fight to start off the night and the already intoxicated crowd loved it! The decision could have went either way after two rounds, but the Benelux fighter, Danny Van Bergen got the nod from the judges with a unanimous decision.

XFC 7 creates history on Feb. 20 with first ever pro MMA event in Tennessee – results

It looks as though Xtreme Fighting Championship’s XFC 7: SCHOOL OF HARD KNOX  went off without a hitch last night as the first ever pro MMA event in Tennessee history. PRO MMA (promma.info) received the following press release this morning from the organization:

The first professional Mixed Martial Arts fight card ever allowed in the state of Tennessee, XFC 7: “School of Hard Knox” was history-making even before the first bell chimed. Taking place at Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, the promotion showcased some of the top emerging talent in the sport, including a pair of undefeated heavyweights, Chad Corvin and Scott Barrett, in the main event. And because of the fast fists and electrifying knockouts during the fight card, XFC 7 also made history by catapulting the careers of the next generation of MMA champions to the cusp of superstardom – and perhaps converting the state of Tennessee into MMA fans in the process.

They call their shows “Future Stars of MMA” for a reason; because their tournament-style events offer a breeding ground for up-and-coming fighters to build a name for themselves and get the experience they need to move on into the world of professional mixed martial arts competition.

On Sunday, April 15, TUFF-N-UFF: FUTURE STARS OF MMA returned with the first rounds of a four-man 135lbs. tournament, an eight-man 155lbs. tournament, an eight-man 170lbs. tournament, a four-man 205lbs. tournament, and a 130lbs. female MMA fight. To top it off, they had a main event featuring Ryan Couture, the son of MMA legend Randy Couture and a member of Team Xtreme Couture, taking on Art Martinez from Team Fubar at 155lbs.
