“Bellator V” is in the books after a stacked card entertained fans at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio tonight. It was the semi-final round of Bellator Fighting Championshiips’ Lightweight Tournament and Eddie Alvarez and Toby Imada both won by submission in round three, not only collecting a cool $50,000 in the process, but now they go to the finals for a chance to earn the $100,000 grand prize.
In non-tournament bouts, Nashville MMA’s resident top heavyweight prospect Dave Herman destroyed his opponent Eric Reynolds via a flying knee that put him on the canvas and finished it up with punches causing the referee to stop the action at 4:46 of round 1.
UFC heavyweight veteran Dan Evensen got back on the winning track in his first post-UFC fight. Evensen stuffed a take-down attempt early in round two, reversed it, got full mount, and landed sufficient ground and pound for the referee to halt the action and give “The Viking” the victory.
“Bellator V” will air on ESPN Deportes Saturday, May 2nd, at 9:00 PM EST and a live English version of the broadcast will be available next Wednesday, May 6th, on the Bellator website (www.bellator.com).
“Bellator VI” will take place next Friday, May 8th, at the RMB Fairgrounds in Robstown, Texas and will feature the semi-finals of their featherweight tournament with Wilson Reis taking on Joe Soto and Yahir Reyes vs. Estevan Payan.
