Yoel Romero has officially missed weight for his UFC 225 championship bout by 0.2 pounds and because of that he cannot fight for the middleweight title yet again. In his last bout he was facing Luke Rockhold for the interim middleweight title and won. Unfortunately, Romero missed weight and was not eligible for the title making the victory essentially pointless. Now, one day before he is supposed to face middleweight champion Robert Whittaker – Yoel blows it again. He first missed the 185 pound limit by an entire pound and when he came back two hours later he was 185.2 and in MMA that .2 means a lot. Close doesn’t count.

It is entirely possible that Romero could be punished for not making weight with more than a fine. He could lose the fight opportunity itself and we wouldn’t blame them. If Romero beat Robert Whittaker and couldn’t wear the belt it would make the next champion a placeholder until he decided to eat less cake. He would be a specter over the division just like Jon Jones is to 205. No matter who was champion they would say Yoel was the real champ.

What a mess.
