Before undefeated featherweight Peter “Slippery Pete” Barrett tries to improve to 7-0 versus Jeremy Davis at CES MMA 39 on November 4 at Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Mass., live on AXS TV Fights, he caught up with Pro MMA Now.

Do you know much about your opponent?

He’s a kid from Tampa. He came up earlier this year to fight on a Cage Titans card. He won, so now he’s a 3-0 featherweight.

Did you see his last fight?

Yeah, it was super quick. They came out and had a quick exchange. Jeremy’s opponent, who was making his pro debut, got caught with a stiff jab that cut him around his eye. Right after that, Jeremy was hit in the balls. He was taking his time to recover, and then the doctor came over to his opponent and called the fight because of the cut.

Were you impressed by what you saw out of Jeremy or was it too quick to tell?

It was really too quick to tell. I looked up another one of his fights, but it was an amateur fight from early in his career. From what I can see, he likes to brawl. He doesn’t seem to be too specific in how he tries to fight. I think he’s a well-rounded, aggressive opponent.

As you get closer to the UFC, are you at all tempted to fight a bit more conservatively to try to preserve your undefeated record?

I would say I have been in the process of defining my fighting style. But, that being said, my last five fights have all ended in the first round, so I haven’t really been to a second round, where I’m forced to make on-the-go changes.

How do you see this fight playing out?

Very, very similar to how my last few fights have gone. I don’t think he knows what he’s getting in the cage with. I’m a big 145er, I’m only getting better every day, and I’m just excited to get back down to business.
