eddie alvarez-bellator 66
Didn’t we go through this last year. Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez was ready to abandon ship and take his talents to the bright lights and hearty pay checks of the UFC. It was almost a done deal with a contract on the table but Bellator said no so fast. A long and drawn out court battle forced Alvarez back into the Viacom owned promotion’s cage and he beat Michael Chandler. All good right?

Sherdog.com is now reporting that Alvarez has resumed negotiations with the UFC and may make his debut against none other than Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 in September. Here is some of the report.

Sources close to the bout who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matchup had not yet been finalized confirmed the news to Sherdog.com. The bout is contingent on the UFC acquiring Alvarez’s services from Bellator. Negotiations are ongoing because Alvarez currently remains under Bellator contract at the time of this writing.

Rumors have been floating around Twitter for awhile of a potential big fight announcement and this could be that speculated scrap. Cerrone was set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov but just as soon as that deal was don, Nurmagomedov injured his knee.

Is this a good fight? It would certainly be a welcome addition to an already stacked event.

Check out some of Alvarez’s most recent action as he captured a split decision win and the Bellator lightweight title.
