UFC's Renan Barao
Champ Renan Barao

There has been very little buzz a head of the Barao vs Dillashaw title fight taking place this weekend at UFC 173. Why is this? Why do people continue to disregard Renan Barao’s status as one of the best fighters on the planet?

Renan Barao is 32-1; this man has only lost ONE fight in 33 fights! In 22 of those victories he has finished his opponent. Barao is on a 22 fight win streak and it would be a 32 fight win streak if not for a No Contest against Claudemir Souza back in 2007. A win streak like this is unheard of in MMA.

It’s not like Barao is fighting chumps either. Brad Pickett, Scott Jorgensen, Michael McDonald, Eddie Wineland and Urijah Faber are all victims of the Brazilian’s current win streak.

The 27-year-old Nova Uniao fighter has finished three straight opponents since defeating Urijah Faber via decision to obtain the interim bantamweight strap at UFC 149 in 2012. Since then, Barao has been nothing but dominant, smashing everyone in his path. Yet people do not mention him when talking about the best fighters today.

Ben Fowlkes recently wrote an article about Barao being a hard sell. I agree with some of what he says, but other parts are just blatantly disrespectful. Why Barao continues to be disrespected is beyond me. If you are a Mixed Martial arts fan you should WANT to see the best fighters fight. Renan Barao is one of the best fighters in the world and denying that is just ignorant.
