The main event has taken a turn for World Series of Fighting’s first lightweight title fight. Lewis Gonzalez is out due to injury and Richard Patishnock (6-1) is in to fight undefeated Justin Gaethje (10-0) on January 18th at WSOF 8 in Florida.

After defeating Igor and Gregor Gracie under the WSOF banner, Patishnock finds himself in a great position. He was originally set to meet Luis Palomino at this event but WSOF officials believe he had done enough to earn a title shot. His career started with four straight wins before dropping a decision back in April of 2012. Since then he has rebounded with wins at WSOF 2 and WSOF 5.

Looking to stay unbeaten, Justin Gaethje has been one of the rising talents of the company. He has won three in a row with Ray Sefo’s outfit and has finished nine out of 10 career fights.  He defeated Dan Lauzon at WSOF 6 by knockout.

WSOF 8 takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL on January 18th. In addition to the lightweight title fight, Mike Kyle and Anthony Johnson will meet on the card as well as the first women’s bout in promotional history when Jessica Aguilar takes on Alida Gray for the WSOF strawweight title.  The main card will air live on NBC Sports Network.
