Strikeforce Challengers 20 play-by-play

T.J. Cook vs. Trevor Smith

Round 1 – Smith lands some inside leg kicks but then eats a couple punches. Smith with a body kick. Another inside leg kick. Takes a right to the body. Cook catches a kick and gets the fight to the ground but Smith ends up on top in half guard. Cook tries to scramble and Smith grabs him around the neck controlling him. Cook breaks his neck loose but Smith maintains control from the top and drops a few elbows for fun. Cook looks for a kimura but Smith muscles right out of it. Smith goes for a toe hold and Cook punches him in the face making him let go. Another elbow from Smith, moves to side control. Cook gets to his knees and Smith transitions to an arm bar, now a guillotine and moves to full mount with the choke locked in deep and T.J. Cook taps out. Cook smiles as he gets up realizing Smith was the better man tonight. — Replay shows Smith landing a nice head kick, I missed that one.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Trevor Smith def. T.J. Cook by submission (guillotine choke) Rd 1 (4:28)

Adlan Amagov vs. Anthony Smith

Round 1 – Leg kick from Amagov, again. He ducks a punch from Smith and Amagov goes for a single. He finally gets it after hopping around the cage. Smith with a flexible guard and has full guard now. Amagov putting some punches to the ribs. Smith with a closed body lock, now back to a regular closed guard but the ref stands them up. Amagov lands a left and a right as they both swing for the fences. Amagov gets the better of the exchange and Smith goes down after eating a big right on the chin. Amagov finishes him off with a few more and Smith goes out. Big heaters being thrown by both guys.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Adlan Amagov def. Anthony Smith by knockout (punches) Rd 1 (2:32)

Ronda Rousey vs. Julia Budd

Round 1 – Budd connects first as Rousey pushes her to the cage and puts her down. Ronda mounts immediately. Goes for an armbar. Budd tries to escape but she’s in danger and there’s no letting go this time, she just dislocated and hyper extended her elbow completely in the opposite direction. Rousey’s coach Gene LeBell had his stop watch out to see how fast she could get it. Oh my god, her arm is completely screwed. Completely a useless limb at this point.  This is why Ms. Rousey will eventually fight Cyborg!

OFFICIAL RESULT: Ronda Rousey def. Julia Budd by submission (armbar) Rd 1 (:39)

After the bout Ronda called out Miesha Tate, saying she wants Sarah Kaufman first, then wants a title shot at Tate. Ronda will have to move to 135 lbs. for that bout.

For those who don’t remember Rousey’s last fight, she took a lot of heat because she let the first round armbar go after her opponent tapped but did not wait for the ref to stop it. She was not making the same mistake again and proved a big point tonight.

Antwain Britt vs. Lumumba Sayers

Round 1 – Sayers shoots under a punch, pushes Britt to the cage. Britt tries to grab a Thai plum and Sayers unleashes a flurry of punches and an uppercut and Britt collapses to the mat out cold. Holy cow that was brutal! Man, this is why Strikeforce needs to live! Great win for a dangerous up and comer.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Lumumba Sayers def. Antwain Britt by knockout (punches) (:28)

  1. Good stuff for SF tonight….wish my man Brunson would have went for it a little more instead of controlling…but a solid win nonetheless over a very experienced guy…

  2. Somebody please set me up with Ronda, I need her to beat people up for me. I have a lifetime supply of snack packs… hopefully that helps.
